Dear Arviarmiut!

We are looking for up to 15 Arviat residents to explore with us how you can use digital tools and technology – photography, video, drones, apps, and others – to communicate your traditions, ideas, skills and interests – and create your own business.

We’d like to spend time with you exploring technology, taking it out into the land, telling stories, and exploring values and ideas.

Together, we will:

  • Learn how creative technologies can help transform your skills and experience into jobs.
  • Connect with an Alaska community that is exploring the same ideas.

We will also:

  • Discover how others are using technology to create businesses.
  • Learn about ways the Hamlet office can assist with small business creation.
  • Test new technologies!

We Are:

  • Timothy Pasch (University of North Dakota)
  • Olaf Kuhlke (University of Minnesota)
  • JJ Kelley (National Geographic Filmmaker)

Local Coordinators:

  • Eric Anoee (Arviat Film Society)
  • Michelle Malla (Hamlet of Arviat Director of Community Development);
  • Gord Billard (John Arnalukjuak High School, Arviat Film Society)

Compensation, food, and transportation costs will be provided to all participants. To apply, please write to: Eric Anoee or Michelle Malla.

We graciously acknowledge the financial support of the National Science Foundation, the University of North Dakota, the University of Minnesota, National Geographic, the Hamlet of Arviat and Arviat Film Society.
