“Will climate change have an effect on the Northern Lights”
That’s the question John Arnalukjuak High School students and Arviat Film Society members Shelton Nipisar and Innosar Issakiark had for Peter Mansbridge and Bob McDonald on CBC’s The National and Mansbridge One-on-One this weekend.
The spot was filmed for the popular Ask Bob series, where CBC’s science correspondent, Bob McDonald, joins Peter Mansbridge to answer curious and cool science questions from Canadians across the country.
The question, which ran on May 3-5, was also the first time an Ask Bob question was submitted in both English and Inuktitut.
After learning about the opportunity to ask questions on Twitter, Shelton and Innosar were asked to film their question for the show.
Mansbridge and McDonald also congratulated the two film and video students on their gold medal win at the 8th annual territorial skills competition. Shelton and Innosar, along with their coach, teacher Gord Billard, will be heading to the Skills Canada national competitions in Vancouver this June.
We’d like to thank Peter Mansbridge, Bob McDonald and producer Leslie Stojsic for including our Nunavut students to be part of the show! It was a fantastic experience!
We learned a lot from some amazing science questions! For those who are curious to know if climate change will affect the northern lights, watch the full episode for Bob’s answer!
