Arviat and Toronto link together with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Film Festival

York University’s Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainability (IRIS) and the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) are co-hosting a series of virtual activities to help organize in advance of the 17th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties in Durban, South Africa (COP17).

We are pleased to announce that we are partnering with the Nanisiniq Project to screen the following films in parallel on September 27, 2011 starting at 6 p.m.:

  • “Inuit Knowledge and Climate Change” by Zacharias Kunuk and Ian Mauro;
  • “Experiencing Climate Change from the Perspectives of Inuit Elders and Youth” by Jordan Konek;
  • “Introduction to Nanisiniq” and “Martha’s Gang” by Jordan Konek.

We are synchronizing with Arviat, Nunavut so that we all watch the movies at the same time and then can have a dialogue with Arviat youth/community members and Toronto youth/community members afterwards.

Join us at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27th, 2011 at the Arviat Community Learning Centre. For more information, contact: Jamie Bell at Nunavut Arctic College (Arviat) at 867-857-8625.
